My name is Callum Chalmers I have been enrolled on 129 Sqn since September 2002. I am now a Cadet Warrant Officer on the Sqn and am the cadet in charge of dress and discipline, drill and adventure training amongst other duties.
I have been lucky enough to represent the Sqn on a number of occasions in Shooting, Penthalons, Cross Country and other activities.
Last year I was a member of the senior team representing the squadron in the Kent Wing Penthalon, a weekend exercise (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon) competing against the all the sqns of Kent Wing Air Cadets, a detachment of Sea Cadets, a detachment of Marine Cadets and a detachment of Army Cadets held at SMP Folkestone Training Area.
We competed in 5 activities over the weekend:
Shooting - We fired the .22 small bore No. 8 service rifle at a range of 25 meters with points being scored in 3 different disciplines snap, rapid and grouping.
First Aid - a first aid exercise where the team is marked on how well it reacts 2 a situation involving casualties.
Initiative Exercise - the team had to complete a task within a specific time limit. Ours was to burst balloons using only the equipment we were given.
Obstacle Course - We had to complete an obstacle course, fastest time being the winner.
Navigation Exercise - The team participated in an exercise that required us to navigate our way to as many points as possible within the time limit, points were awarded on how many checkpoints you managed to reach and points deducted for every minute you were late.
I am very pleased to say that we came in the top 5 in every activity actually winning the Navigation Exercise, the only team to reach every point!
As a result we won the competition overall in the senior age group and the whole team is looking forward to returning this year to defend our title.
Team - Flt Sgt Chalmers, Sgt Wylie, Cpl Isaacs and Cdt Mackenzie
